James’s career began with the technology itself. That foundation informs how he challenges a plan, examines operational risk and works with the people responsible for delivery.
From engineering to delivery leadership
At Gateway, James delivered technical consultancy and enterprise training, working with customer engineering teams on Microsoft and network infrastructure. Infrastructure migration in operational policing developed his understanding of change in live services. Configuration management at Deutsche Bank brought a focus on CMDB quality, service dependencies and controlled technology delivery.
At Trustmarque, his work covered national infrastructure programmes and service transitions. At Sopra Steria, it extended into secure government and defence transformation, programme recovery and portfolio leadership. These environments required technical, commercial, supplier and operational perspectives to be brought into the same plan.
Portfolio judgement and human leadership
James stabilised a fragmented transformation portfolio at Helping Hands, spanning technology, HR, finance and organisational change. His Serco role combines digital programme leadership with portfolio oversight, executive reporting and coaching four Project Managers and one Junior Project Manager.
At Sopra Steria he led a group of ten project and programme professionals. He has mentored delivery professionals for more than a decade. Clear responsibilities, credible commitments and proportionate governance are central to his approach.
Practical AI, grounded in technology
James applies AI-enabled analysis and synthesis to reporting, delivery patterns and risk visibility. His hands-on practice includes cloud tools, local/private language model experimentation, agentic workflows and AI-assisted development. The consulting focus is a specific improvement to real work, supported by evaluation and human accountability.
Qualifications and professional development
Professional development includes PRINCE2 Practitioner, AgilePM Practitioner / DSDM, ITIL v3 and ITIL 4, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, MAPM and a CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership (Distinction). His technical qualification history includes Microsoft MCSE and Cisco CCNA and CCNP. His Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship / MBA pathway at Nottingham Trent University is ongoing.
