Deutsche BankCONFIGURATION & SERVICE MANAGEMENT

Better service information for controlled technology change.

Strengthening configuration records, service dependency visibility and change assurance in a global banking environment.

My role
Assistant Vice President / Configuration Management Projects Manager
Period
2009 to 2013

The situation

Technology supporting global trading and financial operations has to remain dependable while it changes. At Deutsche Bank, I worked in a high-availability environment where operational information, governance and service continuity were central to delivery.

My role covered technology change and configuration management initiatives across a complex infrastructure estate. The quality of configuration records and the visibility of service dependencies were important parts of that work.

What I did

I strengthened CMDB quality and configuration management practices, improving the information available to technical, operational and service teams. The focus was on making that information useful for planning and controlling change.

I worked across those teams to improve visibility of service dependencies and the operational consequences of technology changes. This supported more informed discussions about risk and service continuity.

I also helped ensure that changes were properly governed, planned and communicated before implementation. In a live banking environment, those disciplines matter as much as the technical work itself.

What changed

The work improved the quality of operational information used to support technology delivery, auditability and resilience. Teams had a stronger information base for understanding dependencies and assessing change.

It also established the technical grounding I bring to service management advice today: an understanding of how configuration quality and service visibility affect real operational decisions.
