PROGRAMME RECOVERY & INTERVENTION

When the plan no longer reflects reality.

Establish the delivery reality, rebuild a workable plan and restore clear ownership when confidence has fallen.

THE CHALLENGE

When to bring
me in.

Milestones keep moving, costs are difficult to explain and the client and supplier no longer agree on progress. The immediate need is a reliable account of what is happening, followed by decisions that make recovery possible.

What we can work on

  • Rapid discovery of scope, commitments, handover material and the evidence behind reported progress.
  • Assessment of plans, financial exposure, team capability, supplier obligations and delivery constraints.
  • Programme risk analysis covering assumptions, dependencies, operational readiness and unresolved decisions.
  • Reconstruction of governance, accountabilities and an integrated delivery baseline.
  • Recovery mobilisation, stakeholder alignment and ongoing delivery assurance.

How the work develops

01

Listen, inspect and establish the baseline

Speak with sponsors, delivery teams, operations and suppliers. Compare their accounts with the available evidence and separate missing information from confirmed delivery problems.

02

Agree a defensible route forward

Reconstruct the plan around the work remaining. Make changes to scope, timing, resources and funding explicit, with named owners and decisions for the sponsor.

03

Lead the intervention

Rebuild working relationships and management routines alongside the plan. Track recovery against evidence, address blocked decisions and prepare for a controlled operational handover.

Practical outputs

The scope depends on your starting point. An engagement may include:

  • Delivery baseline and recovery assessment.
  • Integrated recovery plan with owners and decision points.
  • Risk, dependency and financial exposure assessment.
  • Sponsor recommendations and recovery reporting.

THE INTENDED OUTCOME

A credible basis for deciding how to proceed, followed by practical leadership to bring delivery under control.

Relevant experience

In a Sopra Steria / SSCL offboarding programme, James reconstructed delivery after an inadequate handover, rebuilt the team and governance, and repaired the client relationship. The programme completed in approximately five months and around £400,000 under budget.
